I can't stand the whole 'pc' movement. It started in the sixties and has progressed through to the present day. It's not Politically Correct to say this or that. You can't say anything anymore with out being ticketed by the PC police.
I wonder how this started. I have to admit that I don't know and didn't research it before writing this post. So as far as name and place and pivotal point go I'm lost. But my hunch is that it started with the civil rights movement and or the woman lib movement. Now it's an out of control beast. You can't say anything anymore with out someone being offended.
Everybody is offended. Of course most of the time it is dramatized phony outrage. The PC thing comes up a lot during Christmas. You can't even say Merry Christmas anymore with out 'offending' someone! What a joke! Christmas is now Politically Incorrect!!!! The liberals don't want you to say, "Merry Christmas!" to ANYONE! Christmas is tied to God of course and liberals hate God and mock everything that God stands for.
I'm not exaggerating here either. I remember last year my kids came home from school one day (we live in ultra liberal Massachusetts) and informed me that they couldn't say Merry Christmas in school or else they could get a detention!!!! The beacon of 'Tolerance' that is liberalism is only tolerant if you are not a christian.
I'm NOT making this up! It might 'offend' those who hate christmas or don't believe in God. Yup. There it is again folks, thought control from the left. Indoctrination in the schools of America is a real and scary thing. Imagine that! Can't say Merry Christmas or else you suffer a punishment. If that isn't religious persecution than what is?
There are just way too many offended people in this politically correct country of ours. Therefore I am going to form an organization called POOP. People Offended by Offended People.

I 100% agree in principle.
PC is dumb. It gets in the way of real conversation. That's partly why I love the web, and blogs. PC gets thrown out the window.
The Xmas thing is annoying. I never met a jew or a hindu or a muslim, in America, who gave a shit if you said Merry Christmas to them. They would just reply back in kind, and move on. The problem however is not saying Merry Christmas, but saying it without regard for the other person's religion and an unwillingness to correct your wishes.
Obviously you mean "merry xmas or whatever the hell you celebrate" when you say it. However, to me, if I was a God fearing Christian, I would not want to devalue my religion into a Halmark card.
But yes, the core point is valid, and I also cannot stand PC. Ironically, PC is a control device, created by some conservatives in hippies clothing.
WOW!!!
We agree!!! Hey, maybe you're not so dumb! LMAO!!
I'm kidding of coure:)I do think you are intelligent, just wrong most of the time.
Yes indeed Donkey, it is a form of thought control but I reject the notion that it is perpetuated by the right. That's just not true.
But I do feel just like you when you say that the christmas thing is annoying. It is obvious that it is not offensive. I mean, talk about being a 'Scrooge!'
But see, this is connected to the whole hard left atheist god hating liberal thing. They are trying to ban the ten commandments from the court houses, which is where they were before ANY of us were alive.
The aclu are trying to twist the separation of church and state laws to suit their far left agenda. It's too much. Every year there is some left wing atheist who is suing the government because some teach said "GOD" in shcool.
Too much. That's crazy and just not american! This country was founded on Judea Christian priciples. I know some of the founding fathers were free masons etc...But largely this country was founded on a Christian inspired set of priniples.
It's worked to make us the strongest, richest country in the world. Why change all of that. Why go the OPPOSITE direction from what has worked so far?
Times are tougher in America than they used to be, but it always goes up and down anyway. Life is not always rosie.
I'm just saying, if we ranking in position one and have been for years, then why change everything so drastically?
Ok now we disagree. lol
The distinction is between social and legal for me.
I do think they should teach religion in school for example. However, I think they need to teach it all, equal, or at least weighted to the percentages. If you teach one, you must teach all.
Saying Merry Christmas to a Jewish co-worker for example is not even remotely in the same category as putting up the 10coms in court houses. A muslim, or hindu, or any other non-Judeo-Christian would disagree that they have "always been in court". It is not the same as making a witness say "so help me god" on the bible. What's the point, when almost half of the people you make say it, don't actually agree or believe it?
Do i think "in god we trust" is a big deal on money? no. I think its dumb as hell, and concerning, but i dont give a crap because it has no bearing on my day. But if I am in court, and I see those 10coms up on the wall behind the judge, I am going to become fearful that my guilt/innocence will be decided by a religious belief, not law. We all adhere to same laws, but not the same beliefs.
And yes, this country was founded on whatever religions, but the reason it was founded was to be able to practice those, without repercussion, and without influence upon or by the state.
"But if I am in court, and I see those 10coms up on the wall behind the judge, I am going to become fearful that my guilt/innocence will be decided by a religious belief, not law. We all adhere to same laws, but not the same beliefs."
The law was born under the ten commandments. That's why it's still in the court houses.
The country was not founded so as to be a safe place for atheists to hide from the king but rather a safe place for christians to worship as they pleased.
In the old days if the King was catholic then everybody was catholic. If the king was protestant then everybody had to be protestant.
Atheism wasn't even on the table. It's about freedom of religion not freedom from religion.
I never said anything about atheists. Just repeated exactly what I said, but stuck atheism in there. I said "the reason it was founded was to be able to practice those [religions], without repercussion, and without influence upon or by the state."
the laws were not built upon the 10coms, just because there happens to be similarities. Your making the association that just because the 10coms say "thou shalt not kill" and we have a "no murder" law, that our law came from the 10coms. Thats ridiculous. Our laws are based upon a collective agreement, some based in religion (all of them), some based in greed, some based in common sense.
The point is, that putting the 10coms in a court house, you are implying that you are being judged by a judeo-christian god.
